Alameda County has set ambitious goals and created a comprehensive plan to reduce emissions, improve quality of life, and adapt to climate change. The Alameda County Clean Water Program (ACCWP) is devoted to educating the public on how to prevent businesses and households from contributing to stormwater pollution. This program works in tandem with other pollution prevention initiatives, such as wastewater treatment plants, hazardous waste disposal, and water recycling. With 9,000 employees in Alameda County, individual conservation decisions can have a major environmental effect. In response to employee requests from surveys conducted throughout the county, the General Services Agency Sustainability Program staff created the Green Ambassadors pilot program.
This program provides information on simple steps that employees can take to work in a green way. To effectively reach the large employee base of Alameda County, a pilot group of 25 volunteers from 10 agencies received training on green initiatives.
